The lamp shades in our bedroom needed a face-lift badly. The shades I bought at Target were originally plain white shades and I almost decided to go to Home Goods and get a new lamp set. Instead, I spent some time this weekend to fix up my plain lamp shades and made them look more custom.
Here is how I made them:
The materials I used were jute twine string, a hot glue gun and a pair of scissors.
First, I hot glued the tip of twine at the top part of the shade.
Next, I wrapped the twine about 8 or 10 times around. Then I cut the twine and glued the other end on the back of the shade.
I wanted the twine to make a statement and not be to thin. Next I repeated what I did to the top part of the shade and did the same thing on the bottom half.
It was really easy to make and it made the lamp shades look more custom. I ended up making two of them and I loved the way they turned out!
Note: you don’t need to use that much of the hot glue, just a little bit. Don’t flip the shade over, I did when wrapping the bottom half of the shade and the string unfolded. Keep it facing up so you don’t make the same mistake I did ..
What do you think about my new custom lamp shades?
