Ombré in Design 2012

Ombré has been a popular trend in fashion and design for quite some time and it’s being brought back again. Ombré offers a great way to jazz up any outfit or add some extra interest to any interior.

One thing I have to point out is it’s definitely a trend and not a timeless style, either it’s in style or out of style, with no in between.

That said, it doesn’t mean we can’t appreciate wearing Ombré in our wardrobe or adding Ombré accent pieces in you home’s decor.

Ombré, is a soft, subtle and gradual pattern that starts with a light color and slowly makes its way to a deeper, richer tone or vice verse. I have to point out that Ombré takes me back to the color theory class I took back in college. The word Ombré comes from the French word, shaded or graduated in tone. While I’ve been noticing a lot of watercolor hues in Ombré such as ocean and citrus hues, it’s stunning in tones as well. I like the look of Ombré because it’s an easy going, carefree style. I happen to really adore this trend and it’s probably because it reminds me of painting and tie dying! However it’s more sophisticated than tie die, just saying.

Here’s a few of my favorite Ombré images below.

What a great idea to add in some visual interest using gradual color darkening from lightest to darkest.
