Salvation Army: DIY Side Table Project

Hope you all had a great weekend. I started my first decorating project finally after unpacking after the move to my new place, took about ten days to finally settle in. Moving is so tiring oh my gosh! Now that that’s all done I finally got to start on all the exciting stuff, my decorating projects. This is my first project in my new place, a side table I found at Salvation Army. I love finding great pieces of furniture and accessories at stores like Salvation Army, Goodwill and other second hand stores. It’s all about finding pieces with good bones but that just need a little bit of TLC.

I got this piece for $25.00 and a similar piece of furniture at a home boutique would be anywhere between $110 and $150. I like the details on this side table but hated the coloring, it was a funky butter cream white that wasn’t happening for me.

This project took me less then 20 minutes to finish. A little bit of sanding with sand paper, a wipe-down with a towel and 2 cans of spray paint changed this somewhat sad looking side table into a cheerful piece of furniture.

(A milk crate I turned into a side table. I also spray painted it emerald green, and it now looks much better.)

I may change the hardware on this side table in my guest bedroom, still looking for some great hardware. For now it works.

What are your thoughts? Do you like this side table in cherry red or do you think I should have picked a different color? I’d love to hear your thoughts.

P.S. I spent the weekend with a group of good friends in North Lake Tahoe at my family’s cabin. We walked around Donner Lake Saturday and enjoyed the beautiful Spring weather.
